MOSCOW, RUSSIA (MAY 9, 2017) (CHANNEL ONE) – Russia showcased its modernised war machine in a traditional grand parade on Moscow’s Red Square on Tuesday (May 9).
The event, an annual fixture designed to commemorate the Soviet Union’s victory over the Nazis in the Second World War. President Vladimir Putin looked on from a tribune filled with Soviet war veterans along his Moldovan counterpart Igor Dodon – who became the first Moldovan leader to attend the event in 15 years.
Cloudy cold weather in Moscow forced the parade organisers to cancel the air force show-off which traditionally follows the parade on the ground.
One of the highlights of the parade were the new missile defence systems of Russia’s Baltic Fleet and Arctic troops with polar bears painted on them.
