Man arrested for trespassing on roof of British parliament

Police arrest a man after he spends a night on the roof of the Houses of Parliament in London.

LONDON, ENGLAND, UNITED KINGDOM (MARCH 7-8, 2015) (ITN) – British police arrested a man after he spent a night on the roof of the Houses of Parliament in London.

Police were called to the Palace of Westminster in London on Saturday (March 7) evening when a 23-year-old man was seen “trespassing” on the roof of the parliament, local media reported.

The man was first spotted at 2115 GMT, according to the police statement. The man was seen pacing the roof, occasionally stopping and staring down from the top.

Police negotiators were called to the scene, as well as the fire brigade and the ambulance service.

The man was arrested around 0500 GMT on Sunday (March 8) on suspicion of criminal damage and trespassing, police said. Following the arrest the man was taken to a central London police station for further enquiry.

Scotland Yard was not able to give an explanation of how the man reached the roof and why.
