MARIETTA, GEORGIA, UNITED STATES (COBB COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT) – Recently-released dashcam video from the Cobb County Police Department in Georgia shows a police lieutenant telling a woman “we only kill black people” after she expresses concern for her safety when she is instructed him to reach down and use her mobile phone.
According to the driver’s attorney Surinder Chadha Jimenez, the woman was pulled over in Marietta, Georgia, northwest of Atlanta, for a traffic stop in July 2016.
The driver was arrested for driving under the influence. Lieutenant Greg Abbott can be seen exchanging words with the woman sitting in the car’s passenger seat.
After Abbott asks her to grab her phone, the woman can be heard saying she was reluctant to put her hands down and she had seen “way too many videos of cops”.
Abbott can be heard replying, “But you’re not black. Remember, we only kill black people. Yeah, we only kill black people, right? All the videos you’ve seen, have you seen white people get killed?”
Local media reported that an internal investigation was opened on Friday (August 25) and that Abbott was placed on administrative duty.
