Start up tech firms showcase wares ahead of start of CES

While partnerships between automakers and Silicon Valley companies on self-driving technologies are taking center stage at this year’s Computer Electronics Show, small start up tech firms showcase their wares at “CES Unveiling” ahead of floor opening.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA, UNITED STATES (JANUARY 04, 2016) (REUTERS) – While the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) officially kicks off on Wednesday (January 06) in Las Vegas, tech fans were treated to a sneak preview of what’s ahead.

It was standing room only Monday night (January 04) at the Mandalay Bay Ballroom, where convention goers gawked and gazed at a litany of gadgets and gizmos that CES deemed worthy of including in their annual “CES Unveiling.”

The honorees making it to the preview are traditionally seen as the best and brightest the show has to offer.

That’s saying something considering CES’s long history in providing a venue for such groundbreaking tech items as the VCR and High Definition Television.

“Being at the CES is a big opportunity to showcase our products,” said Remi Thomas, a former alpine skier, who along with his buddies is pitching an “air bag” like vest, that offers hope of limiting sports related injuries.

“It allows us to showcase our technology and to illustrate that we can bring significant protection in terms of different applications.”

Thomas’s In&Motion, is like a lot of startups that head to Las Vegas in hopes of finding the spotlight.

And while the absence of tech giants Apple, Google and Microsoft may have dimmed the luster of the event, CES still offers a broad market exposure that is hard to ignore.

“It is the best technology show in the world and we are producing beer technology so it’s a perfect show for us,” laughed Dr. Bill Mitchell, who drew a crowd while hawking his personalized micro brew machines at the event.

The 2016 CES runs from January 06 thru the 09 and is expected to draw 180,000 visitors.
