Venezuela’s computerized voting system fails to find president’s registration

CARACAS, VENEZUELA (JULY 30, 2017) (GOVERNMENT TV) – President Nicolas Maduro’s much-touted new voter identification failed to come up in the registry as he promoted the card on live national television on Sunday (July 30).

Maduro has promoted the Patria card ahead of the controversial election to elect Socialist allies to a constitutional super-body. The opposition is boycotting the election, saying it would allow him to dissolve the opposition-run Congress, delay future elections and rewrite electoral rules to prevent the socialists from being voted out of power in the once-prosperous OPEC nation.

The unpopular president went on state television to encourage Venezuelans to vote, admonishing them to remember to take their national identification cards and their new Patria voter ID cards.

After his card was scanned, the screen read ‘the person does not exist or the card has been cancelled.’
