Israel celebrates its 69th Independence Day

JERUSALEM (MAY 2, 2017) (POOL) – Israel on Tuesday (May 2) celebrated its 69th Independence Day anniversary.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli President Reuven Rivlin attended a ceremony for the anniversary at the president’s office in Jerusalem.

A number of musicians performed during the ceremony which was attended by numerous Israeli officials.

Israelis gathered in parks around the city to watch a show by air force jets that flew over the Knesset.

Human Rights Watch warns the election of Donald Trump as president of the United States and the rise of populist leaders in Europe poses a “extraordinarily dangerous threat” to human rights. Their yearly report also criticises Russia, China, and Turkey’s leaders for crackdowns on dissent and Syria’s al-Assad for targeting civilians.
