HOUSTON, TEXAS, UNITED STATES (USA TODAY SPORTS) – Russell Westbrook agreed to the richest contract in National Basketball Association (NBA) history, according to an announcement made by the Oklahoma City Thunder late Friday (September 29).

Westbrook, the reigning NBA Most Valuable Player, agreed to a contract extension with the Thunder in a deal worth $205 million over five years that begins with the 2018-19 NBA season.

The 28-year-old Westbrook, who has played his entire NBA career in Oklahoma City, will earn $28 million for this season, the final year of his current contract, before the new one begins.

The Thunder have also added all-star forwards Paul George and Carmelo Anthony to their roster in a busy NBA off-season for the franchise.
