“Winning is everything,” says LeBron James ahead of the NBA All-Star game.

NEW YORK, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (FEBRUARY 13, 2015) (REUTERS) – The best players from the NBA (National Basketball Association) are in New York City gearing up for this weekend’s NBA All-Star game and the pro-ballers revealed their secrets to success during a preview event for the media on Friday (February 13) in Manhattan.

LeBron James, All-Star forward for the Cleveland Cavaliers admitted his team had a rough start of the season.

“I think the problem sometimes in sports is everyone wants instant success. And I understand being apart of the process before, that it takes time. It takes time for a team to gel, especially for a new team to gel and come together and build camaraderie. And that’s exactly what we are going through. We were going through early season struggles just because we didn’t know each other, both on the floor and off the floor. But over the last month or so, it’s clicked. I think it has a lot to do with us just gaining each other’s trust and learning each other. And we’ve played some really good basketball, winning 14 out of 16 before the break.”

Considered by most to be the best in the NBA, James revealed the secret to his success.

“Consistency. You have to do it over and over and over. Every year. It’s not just doing it in one season or one month. You have to do it year after year after year. And when teams gun for you and you are still able produce every single night, I think that’s what defines you.”

Also, “Winning is everything,” he said.

On Sunday, the NBA greats will meet up at New York City’s Madison Square Garden for the All-Star game, one of the biggest events in the NBA.

“This is it. This is what the NBA is all about, All-Star weekend. You want to get here. You want to have this experience. I’ve been blessed to have this, my eighth time. It gets better and better each year. So for me to be a major part of that this year here in New York, I’m excited about that,” said New York Knick Carmelo Anthony who will start alongside LeBron James for the Eastern Conference.

For the Western Conference, Golden State Warrior Stephen Curry will be among the starters.

Curry said his home team is playoff bound.

“We’re the best team in the west right now. Through half the season, nine losses. It’s pretty special and you want to just embrace the higher expectations that we’ve put on ourselves and that are surrounding our team. We talk a big game about what we’re trying to do this year and we want to back it up.”

L.A. Clipper Chris Paul said his unique pass style, where he puts a bit of a spin on the ball, is his secret weapon.

“I’m just dribbling. It’s like an extra dribble, just to try to get to where I’m going to. I’m not dunking over anybody. So I gotta come up with creative stuff like that so I can score,” he said.

There will be All-Star exhibitions and contests Friday and Saturday. The 2015 All-Star game is Sunday.
