NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK, UNITED STATES (JANUARY 27, 2018) (REUTERS) – Rapper Jay-Z received The Recording Academy’s President Merit Award at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party on Saturday (January 27) in New York.
During his acceptance speech the rapper expressed the importance of supporting the arts.
“It’s our duty to make sure that, you know, not only are we making the greatest art, that we’re upholding and supporting the things that are super real,” said the rapper as his wife Beyonce looked on.
The annual event featured performances by some of the biggest artists of the year, including Migos and Luis Fonsi. A special tribute was made to Broadway by Leslie Odom, Jr and Ben Platt.
The 60th annual Grammy Awards will be held on January 28th.
