MEYRIN, SWITZERLAND (MAY 1, 2017) (REUTERS) – This year’s Cannes Palme d’Or award will sparkle with 167 diamonds, in celebration of the prestigious film festival’s 70th edition and 20 years of parnership with Swiss jeweler Chopard.
It will be the first time the trophy will be set with diamonds.
The 0,694 carat award is estimated to be worth more than 20,000 euros.
La Palme d’Or celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2015, but it has only been awarded 56 times since its first edition.
Spanish director Pedro Almodovar will chair the jury at the festival that runs from May 17 to May 28 while the actress Monica Bellucci will conduct the ceremony.
