FRANKFURT, GERMANY (SEPTEMBER 12, 2017) – Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche and three-times F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton unveiled on Tuesday (September 12) what they described as “a Formula One car for public roads”: the company’s new Project One hyper car.
“I have been talking for ages with Mercedes about a hypercar, a real, top of the line hypercar and bringing some of the F1 technology, and finally you’ve done it, so I applaud you, Dieter, for doing it. this has the engine that I won the 2015 Worldchampionship with so it feels a bit like it is my baby as well,” said Hamilton, took the F1 championship lead for the first time this season with a dominant victory in the Italian Grand Prix, after driving the car onto stage at Frankfurt’s IAA motor show.
The engine can rev up to 11,000 rpm – a few thousand short of the F1 car, and the car also has four electric motors in total.
Zetsche announced Mercedes-Benz will offer at least 50 electrified versions of its passenger cars in hybrid and fully electric car variants.
“We expect to adapt our market and distribute electric versions of our cars in Europe and North America by 2020” Zetsche said.
